Mother’s Day is a wonderful time of year for me 🙂 Not only because I am mom to four amazing little kids but because it also gives me the chance to tell my mother and mother-in-law how amazing they are and how much I appreciate them. Also all of the other mom’s in my life – my sister, friends, aunts, grandparents, etc. It is truly a great day. We wanted to make something fun this year for the “Grandma’s” so we did a “I love you because…” hand print craft to give to my mom. This craft was really easy to put together and was a lot of fun. You will need 5 pieces of construction paper (or colored paper, like card stock), 5 pipe cleaners in green, a white paper to draw a vase, a 12 x 12 piece of scrapbook paper (any color/style you like), and glue dots.
On the white paper draw the vase and cut it out, then trace your child’s hand print on the top colored paper, and cut all five at once. You will take the pipe cleaners and cut them in half. Once the vase is done and the hands are cut out, you will take a black sharpie marker and write “I love Grandma because…” on the vase (you can also use Mom, my aunt, my sister, etc). Then take the marker and write down all of the reasons that you love them on the hands. Some of my kids’ ideas were “She likes to read stories to me”, “She helps me with my school”, “We always have fun together” etc.
When you are done writing on the hands and vase, you will take two glue dots and put them about 1 inch apart on the pipe cleaner and stick it to the back of the hand. This is a quick and easy way to attach them with no mess. After you have attached the “stems” to all of the “Flowers” you will set them aside while you attach the vase to the scrapbook paper. I used about 8-10 glue dots around the side and bottom edges of the vase then attached it to the paper in the bottom middle. I then took three brads and attached them in the middle and each side of the vase (as you can see below in the final picture). This helped keep the flowers in and secured the vase to the paper.
Take each flower and put it in the vase. The ones on the sides will be almost completely 90 degrees bent, and the one in the very middle will be straight up and down. We only did 5, but you could add a lot more and stack them. I love how cute it turned out. It not only is something that is personal and heartfelt but cute and can be a decoration for years to come.
I would love to know how you liked this if you try it! I love how well it turned out.
We also got the ZTE Zinger Phone from Walmart Family Mobile to give to my mom and so I took a picture of the hand print craft to have on her phone when she looked at it. She loved that. I love how good the pictures turned out that I snapped with this phone so that she could have them for her of my kids, family, and more!
My kids couldn’t wait to give their gifts to Grandma, and she was so excited and really loved them both.
She couldn’t believe that we got her a new phone for Mother’s Day. The one she was using is about 8 years old and so she needed an upgrade. This phone is affordable and so is the plan. Walmart Family Mobile service is $29.88/month(for the first line) Unlimited Talk, Text & Data service plan which includes up to 1G of 4G LTE data. We now have some more fun Mobile Memories to keep – and with her new phone, my mom can also be sure to capture all of the Mobile Memories that she wants.
It is really fun giving something to my mom that she didn’t expect. I know that she will love the phone and treasure the kids handprints. This is a great way to show the “Mom” in your life how much you really love them and why!
What other fun ideas do you have to make Mother’s Day fun and memorable?
